Shelley Anne Dean, OTD, OTR/L is the owner and founder of Crossway Pediatric Therapy (EST. 2004) and Crossway Academy (EST. 2011). Dr. Dean completed her post professional doctorate in Occupational Therapy (OTD) in May 2015 from Quinnipiac University. Master of Science in Occupational Therapy from Washington University in St. Louis in 1999. Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Indiana University in 1993. Dr. Dean has specialized in pediatrics for over 20 years. In addition to the long term passion for treatment of autism, Dr. Dean has been trained in contemporary neuromotor rehabilitation interventions to treat children with neuromotor involvements such as hemiparesis secondary to stroke. She is certified in the Sensory Integration and Praxis Test, Therapeutic Listening, Sequential Oral Sensory Approach to Feeding, Handwriting Without Tears and Applied Behavioral Analysis.
Dr. Dean currently serves on the board of International Alliance for Pediatric Stroke and charter member of the International Pediatric Stroke Organization. She is co-chair for Pediatric Rehabilitation Networking Group at the American Congress for Rehabilitation Medicine and serves on the leadership committee for the Pediatric Stroke Task Force at the ACRM. Historically, Dr. Dean served on the board of Autism Speaks for over 7 years before passing her seat to a Crossway team member.
Dr. Dean’s research focuses on evidence based practices and essential components for the treatment of pediatric stroke. She has also served as an adjunct professor at Winston Salem State University’s Program in Occupational Therapy and Cabarrus College of Allied Health Sciences and Pfeiffer University. Dr. Dean continues to mentor Capstone projects at the doctoral and master’s level and participates in research both internally and externally at Crossway such as parental stress pre and post CIMT camp. Dr. Dean continues to contribute to special projects on request such as the I/EP for NMES for ACRM’s Archives of Physical Medicine. In addition, to the editing of the Pediatric Stroke Family Guide.
