What is ABA therapy?
Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) is an evidence-based treatment widely recognized for addressing some of the symptoms associated with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Over the years, ABA has become one of the most effective and sought-after therapies for individuals with autism and related diagnoses. While initially developed for specific populations, the principles of ABA are broadly applicable across various behavioral challenges.
ABA therapy is rooted in the foundational research of pioneers such as Ivan Pavlov and B.F. Skinner. Skinner’s work emphasized that altering environmental factors could effectively shape behavior. Today, ABA has evolved into a comprehensive, science-based approach designed to create meaningful changes in socially significant behaviors.
A key feature of Crossway Pediatric Therapy’s ABA program is its individualized, data-driven approach. Each client receives a personalized treatment plan based on direct observation and ongoing assessment. Below are some core strategies employed in our ABA therapy:

A key feature of Crossway Pediatric Therapy’s ABA program is its individualized, data-driven approach. Each client receives a personalized treatment plan based on direct observation and ongoing assessment. Below are some core strategies employed in our ABA therapy:
- Reinforcement – Manipulating environmental stimuli to increase positive behavior
- Shaping – Gradual modification of existing behaviors to achieve more functional and efficient skills. For instance, we might reinforce steps like touching, holding, and activating a toy to encourage independent play skills.
- Functional Behavior Assessment (FBA) – FBAs help identify the underlying causes of behaviors by analyzing the conditions in which they occur. Interventions tailored to FBA findings are more likely to be effective.
- Measurement – Data collection is essential in ABA. We utilize various measurement methods (e.g., frequency, duration, latency) and graphing techniques to track progress and guide treatment decisions.

Why should i pick Crossway for my ABA therapy needs?
Only you can decide which therapy is right for your child, and we recommend discussing the options with your pediatrician. ABA’s scope is broad, so to support you with the proper knowledge and direction for that conversation, here are some areas where your child may benefit from it:
- It is productive in improving attention, focus, social skills and memory to help children reach new milestones and create habits that help them in their current stage, as well as increase independence to build a life as an adult.
- On the flip side, ABA is known to aid in reducing challenging behaviors such as aggression and self-injury by teaching children other coping strategies and communication to support their wants and needs.
BEginning the process
At Crossway Pediatric Therapy, we strive to make the process of starting ABA therapy as seamless as possible. Here are the steps to begin your child’s journey with us:
- Apply via the Intake Form
Begin by completing our intake form, which can be found HERE. This form helps us gather preliminary information about your child and their needs. - Connect with Our ABA Therapists
After submitting the intake form, one of our experienced ABA therapists will contact you. During this conversation, we’ll discuss your child’s unique needs, answer any questions you may have, and schedule a tour of our facility. This is a great opportunity to learn more about our approach and meet our team. - Insurance and Payment Options
We will assist you in navigating insurance requirements, including submitting a request for prior authorization. For families opting for private pay, we’ll work with you to create a customized payment contract that fits your needs. - Initial Evaluation
Your child will undergo an evaluation conducted by one of our Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBAs). This evaluation typically lasts 1-2 hours, depending on various factors, and helps us gain a deeper understanding of your child’s strengths and areas for improvement. - Treatment Plan Development
Based on the evaluation, the BCBA will design a comprehensive treatment plan tailored to your child’s needs. This plan will be reviewed in detail with your family to ensure everyone is aligned and understands the proposed goals and strategies. - Insurance Authorization for Treatment
Once the treatment plan is finalized, we will submit it to your insurance provider for authorization of therapy sessions. Our team will keep you informed throughout this process. - Begin Treatment
After obtaining authorization, therapy sessions will commence. Depending on your child’s needs, therapy can range from 10 to 40 hours per week. Our therapists are committed to providing consistent, compassionate, and evidence-based care to help your child thrive.
